New Opportunities at McCormicks

Bright and ambitious lawyers need look no further for new career opportunities, with two new vacancies at one of the leading law firms in North Yorkshire.

Work at McCormicks Solicitors in Harrogate has continued apace throughout the pandemic, with clients and staff both adapting to new ways of working, but now as other businesses begin to get back on their feet, the practice is recruiting to assist with its increasing workload.

Its highly-regarded Commercial Litigation team led by Partner Philip Edmondson is looking for a newly-qualified solicitor, following the recent promotion of Will Bates to Senior Associate. The successful applicant will have completed at least one litigation-based seat during their Training Contract. Experience in the areas of professional negligence, breach of contract, property litigation, intellectual property, defamation and insolvency law is desirable but not essential.

The new team member will gain exposure to a huge range of contentious issues and will be asked to assist on matters at various stages. This will range from pre-action, through Court and arbitration proceedings of various types, settlement negotiation and costs.  There will be the opportunity to work with a unique range of clients, including household names, sports clubs, sports professional and regulators, insurance funds, small and medium sized businesses and individuals with personal or business disputes.

McCormicks is also seeking a new Trainee, ideally with an interest in Family law, who will also gain experience across different departments within the practice.

Managing Partner Stephen Hopwood said: “Intellectual achievement, ambition, a sense of humour and a commitment to hard work are crucial qualities of a McCormicks trainee. In return, our training programme will develop skills, knowledge and ambition within a friendly progressive and supportive environment.

“With a diverse range of clients from private individuals to high-profile international organisations our work is never dull. Trainees are exposed to a variety of practice areas to ensure all-round experience.”

Anyone who would like to apply for the Commercial Litigation appointment should send their full CV to Sonia Jones, Partnership Executive, at, while those interested in the Trainee position can apply at
