Corporate Social Responsibility and Charitable Work

McCormicks operates under the founding philosophy that a business should put something back into the community.

We founded and run a charitable Foundation, the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation, which supports young people in need throughout Yorkshire. It also organises the Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards, sponsored by McCormicks and supported by major household name businesses and individuals in the region.

The Awards recognise outstanding achievement by young people, under the age of 35, who live, work, or were born in Yorkshire, in a variety of categories – the Personality of the Year; Education; the Arts; Management and Enterprise; Sport; the Unsung Hero; and the Youngster of the Year (Under 12). There is also a Special Award for an individual who has significantly supported the charity and helped with its work.

In addition to the Foundation, we support a number of charities either by way of pro bono legal work, or direct financial support.

We are solicitors to the Outward Bound Trust, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, War Memorials Trust, the Helen Feather Memorial Trust, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society (organiser of the Great Yorkshire Show, Britain’s largest show of its type) and we assist the Football Foundation.

Senior Partner, Peter McCormick OBE, is Chairman of the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation, Chairman of War Memorials Trust and a Trustee of the Helen Feather Memorial Trust, the John Strutt Memorial Fund and the John Strutt Centre for Parrot Conservation. Peter was awarded the OBE in January 2000, for services to charity.

Executive Assistant, Sonia Jones, is a Trustee and Secretary of the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation and Partnership Executive, Kathryn McCormick, is Chairman of the Grants Committee of the Foundation.

In the not-for-profit sector, we assist the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, with which Peter McCormick is Chairman; Visit Harrogate, of which Peter McCormick is also Chairman; Harrogate International Festivals, the North of England’s premier arts festival, and the Theakstons Old Peculier International Crime-Writing Festival, the largest in the world.

We support the leading educational charity, Teach First, in its work to give an outstanding education to disadvantaged pupils.

Colleagues at McCormicks enthusiastically support our charitable endeavours, either by giving time or fundraising. In addition, they support other charities of their own choosing by events such as sponsored runs, quiz nights, fashion shows, or by giving time.

Solicitors at the firm have acted as mentors to participants in a variety of educational schemes, such as Teach First, the University of Leeds and the College of Law.
