National Ranking for Harrogate Law Firm - Press Release

A Harrogate law firm is once again the only firm in Yorkshire to be ranked nationally for its expertise in Sport Law in the latest edition of a leading guide to the legal profession, Chambers UK 2017.

The firm wins a further six rankings in different areas, including as the only Harrogate firm ranked for Agriculture and Rural Affairs and for Crime, along with six recommendations for individual solicitors as Eminent or Notable Practitioners. Its work in Mediation also wins a national recommendation.

Chambers carries out research with clients and competitors to establish its recommendations. Senior Partner Peter McCormick said: “This guide highlights our capabilities across a variety of fields of law, including Litigation, Private Client and Employment, working with individuals and companies across the region.” He said a quote from a client in the Litigation section of the guide summed up the firm’s approach, reading: “The team at McCormicks really understand what you are trying to achieve and work hard to make sure you get there.”

Mr McCormick is highlighted for his work in both Agriculture and Rural Affairs and for Sport, where he is described as a “towering figure in football law”, with one client commenting: “He has national credibility and comes cheaper than using a London lawyer who probably isn’t as good”. Elaine Lightfoot and Philip Edmondson, both recently made Partners at McCormicks, also win praise, with Elaine named as a Notable Practitioner for Private Client work, and Philip Edmondson as a Notable Practitioner for Litigation. Neil Goodrum is recommended for both Employment Law and as a Mediator.

McCormicks is ranked equal first in the region for Crime, although individual lawyers are no longer ranked by Chambers in this field.
